A selection of covers from the early 20th century
The Tatler began in 1901, taking it's name from a short-lived, early 18th century paper. From the Churchills to the Mitfords, anyone who was anyone appeared in the gossipy pages of The Tatler, which effortlessly mixed reports on royalty, aristocracy and cafe society with articles on fashion, sporting events and shopping. The Tatler also helped launch the career of several great illustrators such as H.M Bateman and Mabel Lucie Atwell.
This magical legacy of colour illustration and cartoon sketches is perhaps reflected by The Tatler's lavish front cover designs for it's special Christmas and summer numbers.
